Use a reliable email address

Email forwarding services, corporate email systems, and certain email providers intermittently discard or reject bulk emails as spam without your knowledge. If Yahoo is notified via automatic rejection notices, their system automatically shuts down all of your Yahoo Groups subscriptions for a week including your HPAA membership and any other Yahoo subscriptions.

For every one of these recurring cycles, you and HPAA volunteers have to take special action to reactivate the membership.

If one of the cases below applies to you, please apply using a different email account:

  • Certain email providers:  @bigfoot.com   @rediffmail.com

  • Corporate email systems: for example @hp.com   @cisco.com

  • Commercial email forwarding services:  such as @.name

  • Email forwarding services from university, professional, and hobby organizations. Some examples of known problem domains:  @cornell.edu   @computer.org   @ieee.org   @arrl.org

Join using an email account that you check regularly. If the email account fills up and refuses emails for more than a week or two – or if the email account is closed – the resulting automatic messages from the email provider cause your HPAA membership to be cancelled.

If you use an anti-spam system on your PC or at your email provider, add our major email addresses to your whitelist or address book. Click here for the list of addresses to whitelist.

How to change your email address

Each Yahoo group has a separate subscription list.

The subject line of each HPAA email indicates the name of the group it was sent to – for example,

[HPAA Career] or [HPAA Jobs]...  For details on the HPAA forums, please go here.

We can't make the changes for you – you need to do them yourself.

There are two ways to change your email address:

  • Unsubscribe from all HPAA Yahoo Groups and rejoin HPAA. Go to Unsubscribe and Rejoin, or

  • Use a Yahoo Account to manage your email, which is easier for you and for HPAA's volunteers

Here's how to use a Yahoo Account to manage your email:

1. Open your email

2. In a separate window, sign into Yahoo

If you have a Yahoo ID, sign in.

If you do not have a Yahoo ID, click "Sign Up" in the bottom right corner to get a Yahoo ID. You can do this quickly – and without providing personal information. We suggest a Yahoo ID of the form "firstname_lastname" – so that former co-workers will recognize your messages. (Uncheck the box "Create my free Yahoo! email address" unless you want a free Yahoo email address.)

3. Go to Yahoo Email Preferences

- Click "Add Email Address"

- Enter the address and click "Continue"

4. Verify the new address

- Switch to your email window and get new messages

- Open the message: "Yahoo!: Please Verify Your Email Address."

- Click on "Important! Please click here..."

5. Go to Edit My Groups

- For each group, select the desired address from the list of your verified addresses.

- Be sure to click "Save Changes"

Allow 48 hours for the Yahoo Groups systems to complete your change.

6.  Although you completed a brief questionnaire to gain admission to HPAA, this information is not entered in the online Alumni Directory, which is accessible only to HPAA members. To update your entry (or to add yourself) go to HP Alumni Directory
